Ripon Community Poppy Project
June 6th 2024 marked the 80th Anniversary of the ‘Operation Overlord’ D-Day Landings.
We held a series of events and displays around the City of Ripon.
Our fabulous knitted tank has been to Llandudno!
The tank went to Llandudno, North Wales as part of Llandudno The Longest Yarn – D Day Tribute – a large exhibition of creative knitting.
It returned to Ripon Market Square on 4th of November until 12th November, commemorating the end of the Second World War as part of the City’s remembrance events.
£1000 Raised for ‘Help for Heros’
From the forecourt at Ripon Cathedral, to Fountains Abbey, Newby Hall, Ripon Inn and Tate’s Garden Centre, the tank has grabbed attention and attracted donations in a bucket that we left alongside it.
“I’m pleased to say that, particularly with the help of the Tate family, we were able to reach our target of £1,000 for Help for Heroes.” Stuart Martin
Ripon D-Day Hero Hunt
In partnership with Ripon BID, local businesses displayed a knitted soldier, sailor or airman in their ground-floor window and were listed on the Hero Hunt trail sheet.
Printed forms were available from G Graggs, Ripon Library, The Wakeman’s House or the Ripon BID office.
The figures were displayed from 30th April until 15th June and completed trail sheets meant you were entered into a draw to win cash prizes.
